This is such a unique home with an exceptional footprint that Superior Walls of Warren, Ohio, uses this home in their advertising brochures and their main display at home and garden shows throughout the country. The special high-strength, low water concrete mix ensures that the basement will be dry. The walls are reinforced with steel rebar and polypropylene fibers for strength. Steel Construction Steel structure is used throughout this house. In the Great Room, the cherry window wall facing the lakeside is all tubular steel wrapped with wood. The engineers who put the stamp of approval on these blueprints approved them as though this home were being constructed in the snow belt of Buffalo, New York, in order to carry the snow load. TJI Floor Framing The floor framing is composed of TJI joists. They are a high-tech combination of microllam laminated veneer lumber (LVL) flanges. The TJI joists feature an efficient shape that enables them to carry large loads over long spans without losing their connection to decking and flooring finishes, such as all the flagstone in the entrance and kitchen area. The flooring is important in the exercise room, where a conventional flooring system would be unable to carry the weight of the Nautilus exercise equipment. Stick Construction Most homes are built with trusses because it is less expensive and takes a less skilled tradesperson. The framing in this home is stick. Not everybody can frame a stick home. It is this type of construction that allows a thirty-foot peak in the Great Room. The benefit of stick construction is more space, less wasted space, and aesthetics. The wood materials are microllam framing material and #1 Douglas Fir-Larch. Gates There are two sets of security gates. The first is located midway through the entrance driveway. This gate is equipped with a camera system, touch pad, and two-way speakers. This allows the homeowner to view the person at the gate as well as to speak to the persons before allowing them to enter. The second gate is part of a brick and stone courtyard wall which encloses the entrance to both the garage and courtyard CLICK HERE FOR VIRTUAL TOUR Great Room Floor – Made with tongue & “V” grooved strips of Hard Maple. There are four types of Maple in the floor: Birdseye Maple, Curly Maple, Character Maple, and Clear Maple. The wood strips are at random lengths, & come in four different widths – 2-inch, 3-inch, 4-inch, and 5-inch. The border is made of 7 different woods – from the inside out: 3-inch Walnut, 2-inch Birdseye Maple, 2-inch Cherry, 2-inch Character Maple, 3-inch Clear Maple, 2-inch Cherry, and 3-inch Curly Maple. The border follows the contour of the room. Floor in Front of Fireplace – Maryland Flagstone, representing a stone spill from the stonewall, with a small section of wood in the middle of the spill. Stonewall – Made of Maryland Fieldstone, which came from the same mountains as the flagstone. The Sailing Ship above the Fireplace - Is a copy of the pencil artwork in the half-bath in the foyer. These pictures were art projects when Wally was a high school art teacher. A template was made of cardboard, and each piece was numbered. The stonemasons then cut the flagstone and put the puzzle together as the wall was being assembled. Built-in Cabinetry in the Stone Wall – Made of Natural Cherry. It is the home for the 73-inch Mitsubishi projection television and all the electronics for the Great Room surround sound theater and the outdoor theater. Lake Side Window Wall- All Natural Cherry. The carpenters referred to it as the wall “From Hell.” Thousands of cuts were made to assemble this piece of art. All the panels were made off site in the carpenter’s New York shop and brought to Lake Milton. The windows are made of reflective bronze glass, which makes it practically impossible to see through the windows from the outside. Great Room Bar Bar – Made of Butternut. Stained Glass Artwork – Made by Studio Arts and Glass of Canton, Ohio. The freedom was given to the company to use their imagination in the creation. Stainless Steel Sink – Was fabricated to fit our design. This bar has hot & cold water, an ice bin, and a blender sink. Cabinets & Panels – Made of Butternut. They were made in the New York cabinet shop and brought to Lake Milton on the carpenters’ weekly trips. Floor – The center design down the middle of the hallway is made of 3-inch Walnut, 2-inch Clear Maple, 2-inch Cherry, 4-inch Birdseye Maple, 2-inch Cherry, 2-inch Clear Maple, and 3-inch Walnut. The design carries into the bedroom hallway Entertainment Kitchen Wood Cabinetry & Trim –Natural Hickory. Entertaining Kitchen Floor – A continuation of the entrance foyer area in Maryland Flagstone. Dinette Floor – A continuation of the Maple floor of the Great Room Countertops & Window Trim– Made of granite. The two rosettes in the granite window trim have abalone inserts. Island – Has a hand sink, a Jenn-Air cooking top with down draft, and electrical outlets. Cooking Area on Back Wall– Has a portable deep fryer and a cooking grill under the hood. The grill and fryer have registers underneath for makeup air when the exhaust fan is on. Back Splash – Made of granite. Refrigerator – Subzero refrigerator, used primarily for beverages. FORMAL DINING ROOM Wood Trim, Coffer Ceiling, and Cabinetry – Natural Walnut. Carpet – The sculptured carpet artwork is taken from the pictures on the walls and is inlaid in the wood floor. Table – Made of Maple, Hickory, Cherry, and Walnut woods that are in the adjacent rooms. Seating for 22 people. The table is arced so everyone can see each other. THEATER ROOM Prior to the design of our home theater, we went to New York City to the home theater trade show for ideas. We found that the ideal home theater layout should not have any parallel walls or surfaces. Therefore, this theater does not have any parallel horizontal or vertical surfaces and is constructed so the sound will not leave the theater. The sidewalls have four layers of dry wall and two layers of plywood and are filled with spray foam. The ceiling has approximately 14-inches of foam so that the sound cannot be heard in the Great Room or vice versa. The theater has its own heating, cooling, and ventilation system so no sound will travel through the ductwork in the house. We anticipated installing acoustic tile on the sidewalls, but once the equipment was installed and tested, the sound meters read “PERFECT”! The sound has been certified by a THX certified technician, one of only a few home theaters in the country. Listen to the sound and look at the clarity of the picture. It’s better than any theater you may visit. The theater can seat 22 people. The first two rows of seats are recliners. The back row seats are Gasser bar stools. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. BASEMENT BAR LOUNGE -REC ROOM- POOL ROOM ONE OF A KIND POOL TABLE DECK -STONE PATIO WITH GAZEBO SWIMMING POOL-HOT TUB OUTDOOR THEATER This outdoor theater is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the few in the country, an outdoor theater with surround sound. There is a rear projection television from the "animal decor" back bedroom. The screen is such that you can observe the picture from any angle and get a clear, sharp image. The screen is approximately 5-1/2 feet tall and 9 1/2 feet wide. It is just like an outdoor drive in theater. The darker it gets outside, the better the picture. You can play DVD's, VHS tapes, and satellite television on it. It's great for music videos or sporting events. OUTDOOR THEATER LAKESIDE FLOATING DOCK MASTER BEDROOM Wood Trim – Made of Butternut. Glass Panel Doors – The hallway to the bedroom is trimmed in Natural Cherry. The room is trimmed in Butternut. The hallway side of the doors is Cherry; the bedroom sides are Butternut. Look closely at the doors - Where is the separation point? White Carpet Sculpture – Is a pick up from the bed – look for the resemblance. Built-in Cabinet in Stone Wall – Opens to allow access to the backside of the television in the Great Room. Passageways – The two passageways on both sides of the bed lead to the Master Bathroom and the two (his and hers) walk-in Aroma Cedar closets, trimmed in Cherry.
